TESTIMONIALS:
Natalia Makzoumi, MS, Barbados Fertility Centre, Barbados
Junior embryologist
October 5, 2012
It is a pleasure and an honor for me, as a new scientist in the field of reproduction, to be writing about Eva Ulehlova.
I met her, when I started working at the Barbados Fertility Centre. She was the Senior Embryologist on duty at that time. When Eva is in charge of a lab, it is hard to tell that she is not a permanent member of the team. That is, because she is very dedicate, she gives her whole to everything she undertakes and considers every lab in which she works, as her own, a quality that is rare among people, who do the same kind of work.
I was, also, lucky enough to be trained by Eva. She is very patient, explanatory and very encouraging, as when she believes in you, she trusts you with responsibilities, something that is really important in the training procedure. She is able to train a new scientist efficiently, in minimum time. She communicates her knowledge very easily and is a great supervisor. During the brief time I worked with her I learned new things on laboratory work, techniques, protocols, improving patient care –which is her motivation- and I won’t be exaggerating if I said, that I gained more experience working for a short period of time with her, than my two previous years in the field.
I was amazed with her experience in every aspect of laboratory work, from lab directorship to the minimum needs of an IVF lab. She is able to work efficiently on her own, but is also a great team player and always takes the tense out of the team, with her great personality.
I was also impressed with her expertise in troubleshooting, which is one of the most important qualifications, for a person that is in charge of an IVF laboratory.
I will consider myself lucky, if I ever become half the professional Eva is. I admire her for what she does and I strongly believe that every clinic that desires good results, top patient care and staff training should invest in people like Eva.
Once again I consider myself lucky and honored to have met and worked with Eva and hope that we will meet again in the future in more permanent basis.

Eva Ulehlova, MS, ELD(ABB),TS ,CLS(CA,ASCP), is an excellent, experienced embryologist and lab director who displays great technical competence and knowledge of IVF labs and was instrumental in the establishment of Westlake IVF in Austin, Texas. Westlake IVF opened in July 2011 and Eva has been invaluable as the senior embryologist. As such, I have had the distinct pleasure of working with and have gotten to know Eva well. Having worked closely with her, I can attest to her numerous positive attributes and have found her to be hardworking, dependable, efficient, and detail-oriented. When Eva speaks of regulations, quality assurance/quality control, and the details that culminate into the smooth operation flow of an IVF lab, it is indeed second nature for her to do so. Eva is truly dedicated to her work and the success of the IVF lab and its patients.
I, like so many others that are acquainted with Eva, have been impressed by her intellect, pleasant demeanor, and compassion. She is extremely hardworking, enthusiastic, and can serve as a solid asset to an Assisted Reproductive Technologies program and beyond.

It is with great pleasure that I am writing a letter of reference for Eva Ulehlova, MS, ELD (ABB), CLS. She is one of the most phenomenal individuals that I have come to know both professionally and personally. I met Eva after I graduated from REI fellowship in 2008. She has been an embryologist, laboratory manager, lab supervisor, embryology lab director in SF Bay Area for over 20 years. When I was interviewing for jobs in the SF Bay Area IVF programs, all the reproductive endocrinologists that Eva worked for or came in contact with had the best things to say about her expertise in running an IVF laboratory and about her embryology laboratory skills.
Eva is a born leader. She is intelligent, organized with her thoughts and is able to make very clear action plans and develop protocols.
After I left University of Michigan, I began looking into setting up a private practice in California. I consulted Eva on opening an ART laboratory. Eva was very easy to work with. She is clearly a leader and came up with an excellent plan that involved building an IVF lab from the ground up. Eva has been a wealth of information and has served as a consultant for me in this endeavor. Her advice has been invaluable.
I also reach out to Eva at least twice a month to review extremely challenging embryology cases that have other laboratory directors stumped. Eva always has a solution for me, and she is always right on target. She has many years of experience with regulation of ART laboratory such as Tissue Bank licensing, CAP certification, FDA regulations and CLIA. She is experienced in writing and reviewing new laboratory SOPs, process improvement, total quality management in the laboratory and employee supervision.
As I have had the chance to get to know Eva over the last three years, I have come to know not only how brilliant and creative she is but how she works with the highest ethical standards. She is extremely professional and gets every job done right. She is flexible, dedicated, excited, experienced, offers strong management support, hard worker, quick learner, energetic, self starter, caring, competent, seeks out new technologies, maintains up to date knowledge thru continuing education, teacher and a leader by example. Her work is very important to her; she is extremely detail oriented and conscientious – all attributes of a superb embryologist, IVF laboratory director and laboratory manager.
Eva is a phenomenal scientist and if I can somehow provide any other information, please don’t hesitate to call me.

August 2007
I first met Eva in 1996 when we were both employed by a large, private reproductive practice on the West Coast- Pacific Fertility Center, San Francisco. At that time, Eva was a technical supervisor of a very busy IVF laboratory which provided full services in embryology, andrology and endocrinology. She not only excelled in technical skills but also in her management skills of a large laboratory support staff. Since she directly reported to an off-site laboratory director, she managed a large laboratory team of embryologists and laboratory technologists mostly by herself with great dedication and always did above and beyond what was expected of her.
In 2000, I started my own reproductive medicine practice (MRMA) and actively recruited Eva to join my clinical team as an embryologist since I valued her skills and knowledge so highly.During the many years we have worked together, I have developed a deep appreciation not only of Eva’s technical expertise in the embryology laboratory but also for her attention to detail and willingness to participate as part of a team in delivering excellent patient care. Eva has extraordinary expertise in hands-on laboratory management and scientific excellence.
She is always seeking out new technological advances, attends scientific conferences and keeps up to date with scientific journals. In 2003, she completed a Master’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences at SFSU while also working full time.Due to her unwavering commitment to her work, she played an integral part in keeping our success rates among the best in the country.

We have known Eva for many years. In the early 1990’s, my husband and I were laboratory directors of a large human in vitro fertilization laboratory in San Francisco-Pacific Fertilty Center. We hired Eva in 1991, soon after she graduated from UCD-MC as a licensed clinical scientist.
She ran our endocrinology and andrology testing laboratory and soonproved to be an outstanding addition to our embryology laboratory. In 1994, my husband and I started our own IVF laboratory providing services to reproductive medicine physicians. We successfully recruited Eva to work for us in 1999.She has been responsible for all daily operations in our second IVF laboratory location, and was technical supervisor for the Santa Rosa laboratory until June of 2006 when it was sold.
Eva possesses a number of professional skills. She is well-versed in all aspects of tissue culture techniques, embryo cryopreservation, and blastocyt culture techniques. She also regularly performed Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection with excellent fertilization rates and excellent pregnancy statistics. Eva's Master’s thesis topic investigated various cryopreservation protocols for human embryo freezing.
In addition to her technical skills, Eva is an excellent laboratory manager. Her training as a medical technologist has proved invaluable in maintaining and strengthening our laboratory quality management program.Human IVF laboratories undergo inspections by both the College of American Pathologists (CAP), CA Tissue Bank and the FDA.
We relied heavily on Eva’s expertise to assure that we are in compliance with CAP and federal government regulations. We trust Eva’s judgement and skills unequivocably as evidenced by the fact that for the past 3 years she has had sole on-site supervision of all embryology work, quality control and assurance as well as acted as a laboratory co-director in both of our IVF laboratories.
